Translation

a1My mind was confused. Ignorance covered my eyes. I enjoyed the possession that was to be enjoyed by the Buddha. ... wider than the sky... three...
a2... I do not obtain... Did you not make an attempt to make the world free of suffering? (Do not?) be pained for me! You are refuge in the pain...
a2+He, extremely strong, feared a bad deed.
a3At (the same) time, his body became without disease in purity.
a4... again and again he honored... there with joy. Sought... me (?) through the great root of virtue.
a5... may I always be born with property in a rich house. ... with smearing of blood of the stomach (?)... ... all ornament...
a6... would fall... ... divine... Where was he born throug the ripening (=consequence) of the deed? Where...
a7... body... with bloody of the stomach and sperm...
b1For that reason, Aṅgade became a pratyekabuddha.
b2... the Kuśa-grass... magica power... ... of Aṅgade... the beings, the deed, the ability... will be...
b3Then the teacher Maitreya, feeling aversion towards the world, will know... In this way, the excellent, good law...
b4... there... They will know the law by the instruction of the Buddha Maitreya... They will leave home... law...
b5Because the beings have sown seeds into the Pratyekabuddha Aṅgade (?), they have done meritorious deeds for that reason.
b6... they are liberated in the good law of Maitreya. The pratyekabuddha... of the knowing, worthy Buddha Maitreya...
b7That time, there is a second great group of disciples. Then further the teacher Maitreya... through the good way...

b4The fourfold truths they will know through the teaching; thus they will leave the house for the law of the noble Buddha Maitreya. (cf 491) (Peyrot 2013b: 626)
b5Welche Wesen auf den Pratyekabuddha Aṅgada ... Samen streuten [und] sich aus dem Grunde Verdienste erwarben ... (Schmidt 1974: 436)

Commentary

Remarks

Transcription and translation are based on Carling et al. 2009.
Transcription and references have been transferred from the "Text and Reference Database of the Tocharian A Language" (Gerd Carling Lund University) (funded by the Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation and SCAS).

Philological commentary

n1I follow Carling and Pinault 2023 (s.v. lotka-) in reading āṣtraṃ as a locative noun, since the feminine plural meaning does not make sense.
