Commentary

Parallel texts

*THT 521; Mahākarmavibhaṅga §§ 24-26 (Lévi 1932: 48, 121-122) (until a6); Mahākarmavibhaṅga §§ 33-34 (Lévi 1932: 65-66, 132-133) (from a6 onwards)

Philological commentary

*The text is completed with the help of the partially parallel manuscript THT 521. In the first part the meter is the same as in PK AS 7C (4 x 12 = 5/7), after stanza 26 the meter changes to 4 x 25 (5/5/8/7), cf. the meter name bahudantākne in THT 521 a 5.
n2Note that in the pāda 3b Sieg 1938: 19 proposed to restore aiskenträ ‘they give’ before kauc, but the context rather seems to imply a public pledge which is contradicted by the actual behavior.

Remarks

*Leaf PK AS 7C immediately precedes this fragment.

Linguistic commentary

n1The restoration pälskosa by Sieg 1938: 14 (which would, by the way, be an archaic form) cannot be correct since the sign ‹sa› is part of a ligatura. Therefore a restoration to the absolutive pälskormeṃ is more likely.
