Commentary
Parallel texts
THT 521; Mahākarmavibhaṅga §§ 24-26 (Lévi 1932: 48, 121-122) (until a6); Mahākarmavibhaṅga §§ 33-34 (Lévi 1932: 65-66, 132-133) (from a6 onwards) |
Philological commentary
The text is completed with the help of the partially parallel manuscript THT 521. In the first part the meter is the same as in PK AS 7C (4 x 12 = 5/7), after stanza 26 the meter changes to 4 x 25 (5/5/8/7), cf. the meter name bahudantākne in THT 521 a 5. | |
n2 | Note that in the pāda 3b Sieg 1938: 19 proposed to restore aiskenträ ‘they give’ before kauc, but the context rather seems to imply a public pledge which is contradicted by the actual behavior. |
Remarks
Leaf PK AS 7C immediately precedes this fragment. |
Linguistic commentary
n1 | The restoration pälskosa by Sieg 1938: 14 (which would, by the way, be an archaic form) cannot be correct since the sign ‹sa› is part of a ligatura. Therefore a restoration to the absolutive pälskormeṃ is more likely. |
