Commentary
Remarks
* | This fragment is the right part of a leaf including traces of the string hole which interrupts line 3 and 4. |
Philological commentary
n1 | A metrical passage starts at the end of the line. It follows the type 4x18 with a rhythm of 7/7/4. |
n3 | Here is a stanza of 4x14 syllables with the rhythm 7/7. |
n4 | The spelling kauṇdanye can be explained by hypercorrection for kauṇdinye. This form would be the loan of the proper name Skt. Kauṇḍinya which refers to one the five first disciples of the Buddha, cf. Edgerton 1953 196a. |
n5 | duṣitabhava is the loan of Skt. tuṣitabhavana- 'the world of the tuṣita-gods' with hyper-Sanskritism, cf. Edgerton 1953 255b and Bechert and Waldschmidt 1973 2, 383b. |
n6 | A stanza should begin at the end of this line again in the meter 4x14 with the rhythm 7/7. |
Linguistic commentary
n2 | The form ceṅkalṣe is the adjective derived from the abstract belonging to the root cäṅk- 'to please'. In the pāda 1d keriṃ can only be 3.sg.act. of the present of the root kery- 'to laugh'. |
