Commentary

Philological commentary

End of the Araṇemi-jātaka. The translation of lines a1 and a2 follows Schmidt 2001: 327. Before line a1 the text may be supplemented with “(The Buddha, the teacher speaks: "Behold,) ye monks! ...” .
n1Restoration based on Thomas in Sieg and Siegling 1983: 249.

Remarks

Of the recto of the leaf, three fragments have been preserved, of which only one preserves traces also on the verso.

Linguistic commentary

n2Note the hypercorrect diphthong in ślaukantse for ślokantse!
