Commentary
Philological commentary
The recto is upside down, i.e. the Schnurloch is on the right recto (contrary to normal use), and verso it is on the left; the right margin of the recto and the left margin of the verso are preserved.
The author of this letter seems to be a creditor who now demands his money.
n1 | a cross added above, 'ṣa' below. |
n2 | CEToM: mā w· su. The 'u' in 'su' sppears to be nothing more than a tear in the paper. |
n3 | Could also be śaṃ[¯] [¯M] |
n4 | Ching 2010: 138 tentatively explains this term as the Chinese official 户曹 'Office of Household Registration'. |
n5 | Above the 'ṅk', there is no diacritic visible. Maybe it's just a sribal error. |
