Note to b2 (māṣavarṇi | |
(transl.): Cf. Caraka, Sūtr., IV, 16: jīvakarṣabhakakākolīkṣīrakākolīmudgamāṣaparṇī --- śukrajananāni bhavanti ("producing sperm"). Var. in the Caraka edition by Śaṅkaraśāstrin (25 instead of 16) jīvakarṣabhau medā mahāmedā kakākolī kṣīrakākolī mudgamāṣaparṇyau jīvantī madhukam iti daśemāni jīvanīyāni bhavanti ("these ten are invigorating/vivifying"). Information borrowed from Caraka by Vāgbhaṭa, Aṣṭāṅgasaṃgraha Sūtr., XV (t. I, p. 86), Aṣṭāṅgahṛdaya, Sūtr., XV, 8, and frequently reproduced in several variants. | |
n1 | There is no "u" visible below sa. It is unclear wether the form sum- "drop, trickle" even exists, as the other attestation (W 42 b1) is just as unclear. |
n2 | It is unclear why särwanā is accented on the last syllable. Maybe we are dealing with a compound. |
