Commentary

Remarks

Transcription and translation are based on Carling et al. 2009.
Transcription and references have been transferred from the "Text and Reference Database of the Tocharian A Language" (Gerd Carling Lund University) (funded by the Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation and SCAS).
Fragment of a manuscript which includes A 251 - A 294 (cf. Geng et al. 2004a: 64-65). Lines a1-4 and b5-8 are lost.

Parallel texts

MaitrHami 1, 1; MaitrSiŋgim

Philological commentary

The recto side contains the prologue to the Maitreyasamitināṭaka; lines a8 and verso contain the beginning of the first act. An Uy. parallel text is MaitrHami 1, 1a3-23; the text is supplemented by MaitrSiŋgim, Taf. 7 (Tekin 1980: 39-41). See also Pinault 1999: 193-4.
n1 Considering the last akṣara of line a6 and the occurrences of tmaśśäl in other passages, maybe we could tentatively restore tmaśśäl t(āskmāṃ).
n2 A tentative restoration might be (ta)mpeyaṃ. The second visarga (after aryu) is not attested in the manuscript, nor is it attested in the transcription by Sieg and Siegling 1921: 154
n3 Restoration (märkampal āksissi wärpāt) and translation based on Chamot-Rooke 2021: 225
n4 Restoration se(wāñ) suggested by Georges-Jean Pinault (April 24, 2020) based on the Uyghur parallel.
n5 Given the context, the translation of (o)pṣäly is still tentative, but see Pinault 2015c: 377-406.
