Philological commentary

| n2 | preṣṭi is obscure, but likely a term denoting the location in which the inscription is written (Ishek-Grottoes). In Zhao and Rong, it is connected to a non-existent Sanskrit word preṣṭi that is supposed to be derived from Sanskrit preṣ- "send". The editors there also have to assume an otherwise unattested meaning for the imperfect as "was once in the past" - i.e. "went to the army once in the past". |
