Commentary

Remarks

Transcription and references have been transferred from the "Text and Reference Database of the Tocharian A Language" (Gerd Carling Lund University) (funded by the Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation and SCAS).

Philological commentary

n1Translation and restoration from Carling and Pinault 2023: 286, s.v. .
n2Restoration of (spa)ktāṃ proposed by Sieg and Siegling 1921: 112.
n3Alternatively, one could restore (ṣā)mañi le, as in (ṣā)mañi le(ṃ) ´a monk´s cell´.
n4Reading prutko already in Sieg and Siegling 1921: 112, as well as in Carling and Pinault 2023: 312, s.v. . A tentative restoration might be prutko(ṣ), considering the m.pl. forms recurring in the text, the ligature and maybe A 340 a7?
n5Tentative restoration: (ṣu)tkäm, ´stake, pin, peg´, see Carling and Pinault 2023: 492 s.v. ..
n6A tentative translation of spaktāṃ might be ´religious service´ as in Hackstein et al. 2014: 53-54, where spaktāṃ corresponds to Skt. adhiśīla ´superior morality´; in the same passage, tärkā- ´let go, dismiss´, together with cowai, is translated as ´to steal, to rob´. Otherwise, maybe tärkā- means ´to neglect´, as in the TA expression ārtak tärkā-, TB ārtte tärk-, see TB THT 45 a2 ´I neglected´.
