Commentary

Philological commentary

This fragment (leaf 20 of the Š-manuscript) directly follows THT 85, hence its lines a1-5 must overlap with lines a5-b5 of THT 86. Due to the scanty remains here – only a few akṣaras from three lines are preserved –, however, only a single overlap is to be found (THT 86: b5 and line a5 here); in line a4 and THT 86: b4 the texts can be merged: //// (we)ṣṣäṃ || (chanda)kanivartaṃne || ñiśmeṃ tsrorsa larepi soṃśke(nts)e ////.
The story is continued on THT 88. The translation follows Schmidt 2001: 316.
n1The restoration and correction to tso(ṅk)ai(k) "in the morning" by Sieg/Siegling in Sieg and Siegling 1953 (followed by Schmidt) is doubful; the visible remains of the akṣara speak in favor of tso(n)e, but such a confusoin of nasal signs is highly unlikely.

Remarks

In one frame with THT 87.b.
