Commentary

Philological commentary

n1Olīśkantsa is a perlative plural. Place names that are pluralia tantum are also found in other Indo-European languages, like Greek Ἀθῆναι or Latin Cannae. olīśkantsa needs to be a plural (for the inflection of forms in -śke/-ṣke, see Huard 2019). The function of the perlative is the denotation of the purpose of the coins, i.e. 'for Olīśka', cf. THT 2842 (pu)tatāsentse warwantsaisa cokiś ṣalywe ṣaṅk.
