Commentary

Philological commentary

The leaf belongs to a Sanskrit manuscript containing āryās from the Upālisūtra of the Madyamāgama; on the verso side of this leaf one has a Sanskrit jagatī praising the donor of the manuscript; see Waldschmidt 1971: 124-123. According to K.T. Schmidt apud Waldschmidt 1971: 124-123, fn. 9, the Tocharian colophon is a "Schreiberzusatz, der in keinem ersichtlichen Zusammenhang mit der vorangehenden Skt.-Strophe steht".

Remarks

The Sanskrit donor text on the verso side is complete so that it must have been written onto the already damaged leaf, as per Heinrich Lüders apud Waldschmidt 1971: 122, fn. 3. The Tocharian colphon has been written again by a different hand with a brush.
