Translation

a1... they crush them. Some of them they ...
a2... continuously they stretch in (?) ... continuously they crosswise ... others in the tsepe ...
a3... some of them they sprinkle (?) with molten copper ...
a4... they whet them. The flesh ... the sinews, the muscles ...
b2... until that ... on the illuminated earth ...
b3... they ... Other ones flowing in the hearth ...
b4... they kept worrying for their life. Thereupon they give up them on the thorny ground of hell.
b5... they flay their flesh. Until they throw them by hundreds, thousands, myriads (?).

Commentary

Linguistic commentary

*This text shows both unexpected geminates at the beginning of words (rres(k)e(mane) in b3, kkents(a) in b4) and simplification of geminates (paneṃ in a2).

Remarks

*The fragments of the PK AS 19 series (19.1-19.22) all belong to the same manuscript. There are traces of the leaf number on left margin of the verso. Left side of a leaf including the string hole. The string hole seems only to interrupt the third line.

Philological commentary

n1The gap is about 5.5 cm.
n2The first readable word of the line could be read as paneṃ and belong to the root pänn- as subjunctive 3.pl. if one excepts reduction of the geminate. However, the reading is not clear.
n3The paper is very damaged. There might be traces of akṣaras from another manuscript. It is possible that the string hole also interrupts this line.
