Commentary

Philological commentary

n1patka ⋅e: difficult sequence. patka should be a form of the root pätkā- ‘put down, throw down’ (for this meaning, see Huard 2022: 508). At face value, it could the 3rd singular of the preterit of this root. Accordingly, sälpamñai should agree with a noun lost in the lacuna. A reading [sk]e for the last akṣara of the line is quite unlikely. It might be read ttse instead.
n2(tsa)rkanamane: an alternative restoration tärkanamane ‘emitting’ is unlikely, because the erased akṣara was quite large in size.
n3akrūna: krū looks like it is a kru with a virāma stroke. However, since a virāma stroke is not needed in this context, it seems that the “virāma”-stroke is actually a sign for long ū—maybe wrongly read on a previous manuscript. krū is never attested, but there is a trū in THT 182 b4, which has a stroke to the right of the >ta<, similar to the shape of the present “virāma”-stroke.
n4The line is much erased and difficult to interpret. One might read pradat(t)e, which would be a Sanskrit name or the part of a Sanskrit name.
n5haṃsa: this might be the beginning of a Sanskrit proper name, such as Haṃsakuśa (Edgerton 1953: 617a).
