Commentary
Linguistic commentary
The syntax is not clear; the above translation comes at the cost of accepting that the nominative se postak stands for an oblique ce postak; taken literally, we have incomplete (abbreviated?) clauses:
"Gave for the sake of this one; this book; Puṇyadharma removes; may he give".
Note also the wrong spelling lyutaṣṣaṃ for lyutaṣṣäṃ 'removes' and the omission of an enclitic pronoun after ayī (without pronoun one would expect āyi). |
Philological commentary
Peyrot 2015b: 108 has se postak lyutaṣṣe puṇyaśārmentse āyo(r) and translates "This book is a gift of the lyutaṣṣe Puṇyaśarman". The first four words are written in careful script, whereas the last word is a later addition in "unskilled large writing" (ibid.).
The first part, wasa tu{nt}se pel(k)i{m}, he tentatively translates as "he gave it because of that" (ibid). |
Remarks
A complete leaf; the recto side contains a Sanskrit stotra, the verso side the Karmavācanā Niśraya formula (ed. Schlingloff 1955: 47, 116 and Härtel 1956: 9, 47f., 92). In the blank space on the verso side a TB colphon has been written in an uneven script type with varying akṣara size. There are also two tiny, illegible akṣaras immediately after the double daṇḍa. |
