Commentary
Philological commentary
| Although extremely fragmentary, this fragment is reminiscent of the casuistics of the Vinayavibhaṅga: se westrä ‘this means’ and (kä)r(sa)nalle ‘is to be understood’ or (päst tä)r(ka)nalle ‘is to be given back’. maiyyaṃñe may refer to the use of force as in e.g. Rosen 1959: 142 (“Gewalt”); leki wat, if correctly read, may refer to e.g. pātayantika 14. | |
| n1 | : probably a form of ‘burn’, pälkemane or pälketär. Perhaps another vowel is also possible (o?), which would also allow pälkoṣ etc. |
| n2 | something like leki wat is possible. |
| n3 | possible, in theory, forms such kärkanalle, tärkanalle, wärpanalle, kärsanalle. Only the first is semantically unlikely. E.g. päst tärkanalle. |
