Remarks

The upper margin of the recto (lower of the verso) is preserved. Lines a1-4 cover the 6 half pādas 4.1d-4.3a, lines b3-6 the 6 half pādas 4.4e-4.5d: the 7 half pādas in between will have covered two lines on each side and the total number of lines must have been 6. On IDP, recto and verso are reversed.

Philological commentary

n1 Uv.4.1d ye pramattāḥ sadā mṛtāḥ, see Dhp.21 (and Norman 2004: 4)
n2 smṛtā(ḥ) seems to be an error for mṛtāḥ, possibly induced by sadā (also in the Tib. version, see Lévi 1912a: 235), which corresponds to yathā in e.g. the Dhp. Thus, Dhp.21d ye pamattā yathā matā 'the careless are as though [already] dead' (Norman 2004: 4) corresponds to ye pramattāḥ sadā smṛtāḥ 'who are negligent are always remembered' in this version (this reading is not given by Bernhard 1965: 126).
n3 Uv.4.2a-b etāṃ viśeṣatāṃ jñātvā hy apramādasya paṇḍitaḥ, see Dhp.22 (and Norman 2004: 4)
n4 The hiatus-resolving hy is lacking before apramā(dasya) (this occurs frequently with these pādas divided in two, because there is no hiatus anyway, cf. Thomas 1974: 82, Thomas 1977a: 271 and e.g. THT 101 a3 as(m)iṃ for hy asmiṃ).
n5 Uv.4.2c apramādaṃ pramudyeta, see Dhp.22 (and Norman 2004: 4)
n6 Uv.4.3a apramattāḥ sātatikā, see Dhp.23(and Norman 2004: 4)
n7 Uv.4.4e parvatasthaiva bhūmisthāṃ, see Dhp.28 (and Norman 2004: 4)
n8 Uv.4.4f dhīro bālān avekṣate, see Dhp.28 (and Norman 2004: 4)
n9 Uv.4.5b saṃyamena damena ca, see Dhp.25 (and Norman 2004: 4)
n10 Uv.4.5c-d dvīpaṃ karoti medhāvī tam ogho nābhimardati, see Dhp.25 (and Norman 2004: 4)
