a1Siddham! Now he begins the words of the Madhyama-canon: First of all, the Rājasa-?....
a1+... the monk who is provided with good laws, in the present life...
a2+The connection (?) with him has commenced...n3
a3That...
a3+... knowing the law, knowing the matter, knowing the time, knowing the measure, .. knowing the assembly, knowing the excellent being... how...
a5+... Gāthā, Śloka, Udāna, Itivṛttaka (history), Śruti, Jātaka...
a6+... if not, how does he know it?
a7Therefore...
a7+... exertion/consolationn4 , indifference...
b1+... in going, staying...
b2+... of being...
b3So great here...
b3+... through knowledge, study...
b4+... through exiting (?), in this way I have to go here...
b5+...this one is the better of the two (?).
b6There, one... ... will go (?)...

Commentary

Linguistic commentary

n2kātsi for kāttsi.

Philological commentary

n1This could refer to the Rājasasaṃyuktaka-nipāta.
n3I'm assuming that yośaś is a mistake for yogaś, since the former doesn't seem to exist in Sanskrit. Thus, Tocharian cewsa translates anena and se ñasso-? must reflect yogaś. ñasso-? appears to be a hapax. Sieg and Siegling read yo =ṃśas.
n4Note the translation of pragraha "exertion" by Tocharian tsārwaṣṣälyñe "consolation".
