Philological commentary
That this fragment has a direct parallel in PK AS 9B, PK AS 9C and PK AS 9D was already seen by Couvreur 1955: 116 and Couvreur 1955a: 40. b7 karavīräṣṣe lasto: Adams 2013a: 593 argues that lasto means ‘root bark', since it is usually root and root bark that is used in Ayurvedic medicine from the poisonous karavīra- shrub (Nerium Indicum, White Oleander). However, the Sanskrit parallel to the derivative shows that the form must mean ‘stalk'; note that all parts of karavīra- (including flower, stem, and leaves) may be used to for skin diseases and wound healing. |
