Translation

a1Your teaching, not that of anyone else is in this way singularly lovely, your...
a1+... (foolish) views...
a2If they reproach the law, there is no enemy like (false) views.
a2+You who have enjoyedn1 (?)...
a3s'étant souvenu de cela.
a3Much distress of the world Having remembered that, (you) have to persist even in non-appearing/deformed (?) (teaching)
a4First, the (teaching) of the one saying good and doing good... would have to be done by you even if your head would burn (?).
a5Being... through one's self...
a6... they will all achieve tranquillity from your law.
a6+This is thus the fourfold bliss.
b1Your teaching causes pain to Māra, consolation to gods and men.
b2Of birth, great, of the earth, without clinging, without entanglement (is your teaching).
b2+Through your teaching even the teaching of Māra is (overcome).
b3For the one who knows the taste of your teaching... goes himself as is his wish there where death has no territory.
b4+There is a partition of the three times of thinking of the meaning of the teaching and of making dear practice.
b5+This (teaching) of yours... not outside... thus full of virtue, you bull of a sage!
b6Those who don't make the law their refuge...

Other

a2[skt:] if [fools] contemn your teaching [tb:] if they blame the law (cf 168) (Peyrot 2013b: 325)
(Schmidt 1974: 434)

Commentary

Philological commentary

n1The usual translation for the root yu- is "ripened". However, the Sanskrit parallel text has anvābhuṃkth(ā), which belongs to the root bhuj- "enjoy".
