Linguistic commentary

n1	The TB compound ṣañ-añm is the usual translation of Skt. ātmānam (13a).
n2	We may assume that the Sanskrit imperative saṃ-yamaya (14c) has been translated by the imperative of the verb wlāwā- ‘control’ which is always inflected in the middle; cf. also indrinta pulāwat “Control the senses!” in PK AS 17H b3.
n3	TB wse-witsakantso is a possessive compound corresponding to Skt. viṣa-mūla- ‘having poison as root’. It is in the plural because it is certainly the epithet of TB tremi ‘anger, wrath’ which is a plurale tantum. The genitive plural ending shows a mobile -o even though this is not a metrical text; however, immediately in front of interpunction, o-mobile is not unattested even in prose texts (see Malzahn 2012a).
n4	The verb TB pällānträ is the obvious restoration for the match of Skt. praśaṃsanti (3c).
n5	TB yolo yāmor ‘evil deed’ seems to be the most straightforward translation of Skt. duṣkṛtaṃ because this word has been taken as a substantive.
n6	The restoration of the present middle with passive value palkṣtär (and not the intransitive) of the verb pälk(ā)- ‘to burn, be tormented’ is warranted by the fact that it is a morphological calque of Skt. tapyate.
