Commentary

Linguistic commentary

Note that several forms of the text point to archaic Tocharian B: yärpone (a4), olyäpotse (b2), lyelyäkormeṃ (b5) and laukä(ññe) (b6).
n7At the beginning of the line one reads very clearly yärpo instead of yarpo. But it is due to the fact that it belongs to a compound translating Skt. kṛtapuṇyaḥ (35b). Probably this compound can be restored as yamor-yärpo.
n9As match of Skt. viśuddham lit. ‘clean, pure’ (35d) the obvious restoration is the TB adjective astare.
n11Apparently, in order to translate Skt. cira- ‘lasting a long time, existing from ancient time’ Tocharian used an adjective derived from the same basis as TB lauke ‘distant, remote’, which in this text corresponds to Skt. dūra- ‘being far away’. It seems possible to restore the former adjective as an archaic form laukäññe of classical laukaññe.

Philological commentary

n1The first word ought to be restored as yāmoṣne translating Skt. kṛte (31c).
n2Before the tear of the paper there is place for four akṣaras that are largely erased; one can nevertheless read the beginning of the Sanskrit pāda 32b.
n3Before the tear of the paper one finds the schnurloch and maybe two erased akṣaras.
n4The first word ought to be restored as yāmoṣne translating Skt. kṛte (33b).
n5and b1 contain no more than unreadable remains of some akṣaras.
n6Skt. pretya has been misspelled as pratya and the verb Skt. nandati as ndate.
n8After the dot there is space for 3-4 akṣaras of Sanskrit text (35c).
n10The spelling atmana is mistaken for Skt. ātmanaḥ (35d). The preceding word was viśuddham. After the initial vowel a some akṣaras are erased before the tear of the paper.
