a1"(Are they really not desirous to come together with me)?
a1Now in order to be (loved) here, through other streets I will try to [get to] know the cause of the fact that the streets in [great] number are empty."
a1+Thereupon Supriya sought from the king the permission to go by other streets.
a2Here he [= the king] asked Supriya:
a2"Why, oh noble one, are you so distracted?
a2Have you, by chance, had anything happening to you that is not suitable to your mind?
a2+Tell it to me!"
a3Thereupon Supriya says to the king:
a3“Everything suits me on the part of the lord.
a3I am desirous to see living beings:
a3+This does not presuppose in any way pleasure for myself.
a4I have expressed [lit. made] the wish towards the lord to go through the[se] streets.”
a4The king says:
a4“In every way, this will suit (me).”
a4+Thereupon Supriya goes through the streets.
a5Then some people from this city peered only through [small] gaps [in the window/door coverings],
a5but did not go outside.
a5Thereupon Supriya went back to the king.
a5+Then he says:
a6in [the tune] bahupayik:
a6“Will the great king consent to explain this fact completely what is the cause here?
a6By the pain of hunger, they have been terribly stricken;
a6+this has left them.
b1But why now have these streets become empty as it were in the guise of [being] without life?
b1[Why], having solidly barred the doors, do they peer only from the gaps,
b1and do not go outside?”
b1+First of all I [politely] submit this wish in person to the lord straight away:
b2I wish to see these living beings enjoying happiness [and being] well alive.
b2+By seing them, may I obtain the joy being also myself in the power of sweet happiness.
b3+By all means this seeing of pain [that involved] aversion has been nevertheless with some fruit for me.
b42.
b4Thereupon the king, looking at Supriya with love, makes [a thought] in his mind:
b4"I have now obtained an opportunity to speak.
b4+I will make [him] know the urgent pain of the beings.
b5Certainly, (inside) under the power of this one the present grief of this country will disappear completely".
b5+Then the king with veneration says to Supriya:
b6in [the tune] pañcama:
b6“The beings who [are] thieves, miserables, outlaws, murderers have disturbed the spirit of the country, being in conflict with [their] lord.”

Other

a1Through other streets I will try to [get to] know the cause of the fact that the streets in [great] number are empty. (115–116) (Peyrot 2013b: 659)
a2+Why, o noble one, are you so distracted? Have you had anything that is not suitable to your mind? Tell it to me! (cf 116) (Peyrot 2013b: 357)
b4+Then the king, looking at Supriya with love, does in his mind, «I have now obtained an opportunity to speak. I will let [him] know the urgent sorrow of the beings. Certainly, ... by his power this grief of his country will disappear». (Georges-Jean Pinault, p.c.) (Peyrot 2013b: 666)
