Commentary

Philological commentary

*The recto is in Turkic, but not according to the normal spelling conventions for brāhmī. Line b7 is in Turkic, too, whereas line b5 is in Tocharian B. Although all margins are torn, at least the Turkic text on the recto is continuous – it was clearly written after the leaf was torn. Lines b1-b4 are written in a rather small hand, lines b5-6 in a rather large one, line b7 in between. Transliterations and transcriptions follow Maue (Maue 2008).
n1"yönörmeṃ": for "yölönörmän"
n2"säkkez": for "säkkiz"
n3-yu_r\miśśe\: certainly for miśś\•; the virāma dot was mistakenly written as an "e" vowel mark.
n4"bitigen": for "bitigin"
