Commentary
Tremblay 2005: 435 etymologizes this name from Bactrian σαρλαρο 'leader' (quoted in Bactrian Documents 222) > σαλαρο > Salār (sic). There is a slight problem, because Bactrian α should be matched by PT ā (> TB ā under the accent), which isn't the case in the attested form , but the manuscript m-tht4001 has archaic orthographical forms (MQ), cf. Ching and Ogihara 2013: 105. The nominative should therefore be restored Salare.
