Translation
a1 | All beings with joy - gladden their minds!n3 |
---|---|
a2 | Disregard the errors of all beings with indifference! |
a2+ | This is the Buddha-way. |
a3 | Through this, one is to become the Buddha. |
a4 | There is no greater seeing of sāsa (?) in the world than the Buddha (?). |
a5 | Or this speaking and hearing of the law is best of all. |
a6 | Or there is no... than the saṃgha. |
a6+ | These three (things?) we... reverence... |
a8+ | At the end of the third asaṃkhyeya, you were a boy named Saṃcite. |
a9 | You saw Tiyśi (=Tiṣye?) enveloped in wonderous flames in the cave (?). |
b1 | You have thus forgotten... (?) You praised (him) for seven days with one verse. |
b2 | He received nine (?). There was exhaustion for you. I completely (?) honor this power. |
b3 | You are a boatman on the Ganges, oh skillful one! |
b3+ | I am skilled [about crossing] the Saṃsāra lake. |
b4 | Make (others) cross the stream on the Ganges by boat. |
b4+ | I will pull you out of the lake of saṃsāra. |
b5+ | The Śākyamuni, protection and refuge, together with the saṃgha, was meditating in the cave (?) of a mountain (?) in Videhan4 , full of mango-trees, śemane (?) to see the god, the lord, Indra, together with queen Śacī, Pañcaśikhī and Kwirapabhadrā (?). |
b9 | ... of the teachers mother and father ... |
Other
a1 | Erfreue unsere Gedanken! (Schmidt 1974: 506) |
---|---|
b1 | Du hast ihn [scil. den Buddha] sieben Tage lang mit einem Śloka gepriesen. (Schmidt 1974: 172) |
b3+ | You are skilful as a boatman on the Ganges; I am zealous on the saṃsāra lake. Let [me] cross the stream with [your] boat on the Ganges [and] I will pull you out of the saṃsāra lake. (cf 487) (Peyrot 2013b: 298) |
(Schmidt 1974: 487) |
Commentary
Remarks
The leaf is in portrait, not landscape format. However, just as with a poṭhī leaf, it is to be flipped horizontally, not vertically as with Old Uyghur or European style books. |
Philological commentary
n1 | With Adams 1999 s.v. wänt-, this is to be read as paryariṣṣeṃ. |
---|---|
n2 | For ṣuk-komtsa. |
n3 | onolmī is unexpected here. I have translated it as a kind of anacoluthon. |
n4 | Adams 1999, s.v. āmpär interprets śliye as belonging to ṣale. This is not too far fetched, since Tiṣya is written as tiṣyeṃin this manuscript. |
