Commentary

Philological commentary

n1Sieg and Siegling 1921: 224 tentatively restored ly(utār).
n2According to the manuscript and to Sieg and Siegling 1921: 224, ṣ·e in both the transliteration and the transcription has been changed to s·e. For the segmentation of this line, see Tamai 2016: 280, who also proposes to restore s(k)e.
n3According to the Pali version of the story (the so-called "Chaddanta-Jātaka"), the hunter brings back the tusks of the elephant king to a queen who was seeking revenge (cf., for instance, Feer 1895: 79-80).(
